About Mary

Our Riding Director, Mary Barratt, trained and showed horses professionally for more than twenty years, with a special focus on Arabian horses.  She was a 4-H Horse Club Leader for almost 40 years, and served on the Oregon State Horse Advisory Committee. After moving to Arizona (before establishing Lonesome Oak Ranch) she served as head wrangler, riding instructor and director for children's equine educational programs at Rio Rico Stables. She is a member of the Santa Cruz Valley Horseman's Club.

Her office is filled with trophies and plaques commemorating her many great successes. But, her first love has been teaching people of all ages, guiding them as they learn to ride, care for, train and show their horses of all breeds.

Mary has organized trail rides, community service projects, campouts and riding meets. While fun is always high on the agenda, Mary also emphasizes the responsibility of owning and caring for a horse.

In addition to being a lifelong professional horsewoman, Mary is a born teacher, counselor, and guide. And, she can cook! She's a wonderful role model and influence for kids. Give her a call or click her an email if you'd like to learn more about her experience and approach to teaching.
